On May 10th, the Young New Yorkers (YNY) auction featured artworks by 180 artists, including Shepard Fairey and Kara Walker. The objective of the event was to promote the artistic projects that YNY develops for young people to involve them in cultural activities and eradicate the violence they witness in the different places they reside.
Celebrities like Michael K. Williams – who is rumored to be Barack Obama’s favorite actor – attended the auction. Williams is very interested in fostering a new culture against violence; he also exhibited his work at the auction.
Among the artists whose pieces were auctioned was the “unknown” artist from Chinatown, Hanksy; the photographer, filmmaker and creator Sina Basila; the designer and muralist Lawrence Ciarallo; the project Cash For Your Warhol, among others.
