The best in video art, new media and action art in this edition of Art Madrid 2020
The activities of Art Madrid 2020 have officially started. If you plan to fly to the Motherland, or you’re already there, we give you tips on what to see at the event.
Cutting edge artworks and lectures
In its 15th edition, the largest art fair in Spain, in collaboration with MediaLab Prado and Sala Alcalá 31, features an event focused on video art, action art, and new media. Hence, the fair brings the viewer closer to contemporary art, without an intermediary.
In addition, artworks will be available to the public thanks to the commission of Mario Gutiérrez Cru. Activities start today at 17:30 at MediaLab Prado with a master class by the artist Patxi Araújo. Then, for all fans of site-specific pieces, the artist will project his interactive work Sherezade at 20:30 hours.
Consequently, the piece creates an interaction between the artwork and the public. Sentences and phrases are generated depending on where the spectator is located, on the square in front of the venue. And, later this week, there will be lectures by Olga Diego, Lois Patiño and Patxi Araújo.
On Thursday 20, at Sala Alcalá 31, a panel will discuss the evolution of the image in contemporary culture, all the way to new media. Moreover, the panel includes the cultural agent Rafael Doctor; Karin Ohlenschläger, director of activities at LABoral Center for Art and Industrial Creation; and Berta Sichel, leader of Bureauphi Art Agency.
Additionally, on February 22, there will be a visit to Eduardo Balanza’s studio. In addition, a performance will take place there in petit committee. From the 26th to the 29th, renowned artists will do live performances and actions.
Finally, Art Madrid 2020 brings the best of video art, action art, and new media. Moreover, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, France, Greece, and the Netherlands will be participating. You’ll find more info on all the activities on the festival’s website.
