If you like JR’s artworks, you’ll love them with this new app
At All City Canvas we love JR’s artworks and all the social context that encompasses each of them. Recently we told you about the mural he created in honor of the late George Floyd. However, today we’ll talk about the application that will give you the 411 on the protagonists of his photos.
Perhaps many of you already have it on your cell phones, but for those who don’t know it yet, it’s an app that includes photos and videos of all of JR’s international projects, with interactive features. In fact, the artist invites all his followers to download it from Playstore or the AppStore to get a closer look of his artworks.
For example, we’ll find the life stories of the inmates of the Tehachapi series, a giant mural on the roof of a maximum-security prison located in Tehachapi, California. Moreover, what the artist sought with this series was to create a communication path for this population.
Raúl: one of many voices
A clear example is that of Raúl, who narrates (in the available audios of the application) a bit of his past; how he meddled in organized crime, and what his current perspective is when he talks about his past. Also, life stories that tell us about the inequality prevailing in the U.S. and also the modus vivendi of certain towns in the neighboring country.
Additionally, the dynamics are easy. You simply zoom in your cell phone’s screen to the hundreds of faces of the artworks. You click on a citizen’s silhouette. The application will then display a text where you can read each testimony or you can play the audio with each person’s original voice.
Furthermore, the Chronicles series of New York, San Francisco, and The Gus Chronicles: A Story of America are also available. In these works, you will need to place your phone on the mural or book in question. Hence, your phone’s camera will automatically read the face of each series and give you the most relevant information about life stories and the artwork in general.
Finally, the invitation is to try the app and also to check out other JR artworks, such as the intervention he made of the Louvre in Paris, or the documentary Faces Places that she filmed alongside the veteran 90-year-old director Agnes Varda, to name just a few.
