Hayao Miyazaki will participate in the upcoming Studio Ghibli film, Aya to Majo
Studio Ghibli, one of the greatest animated film studios, has announced its upcoming movie, Aya to Majo. Moreover, Hayao Miyazaki and his son Goro will lead this project which will be the studio’s first 3D3G film.
The news of this release and those involved reinforces Miyazaki’s return to Ghibli. After the beginning of 2019, Vincent Maraval, distributor in Europe of the studio tweeted about it.
Aya to Majo is based on the novel Earwing and the Witch, written by Diana Wynne Jones. The film keeps the story of an orphaned girl, Aya, adopted by a witch.
Thus, the girl arrives at a new, unsettling, and strange home, where different things can happen. Hence, Miyazaki keeps the adventure in certain scenarios, as is customary in his films.
For this film, Hayao got together with his son Goro, who in turn teamed up with Toshio Suzuki, producer of Studios Ghibli. Furthermore, Susuki only revealed something brief that could be a potential spoiler.
“A prominent feature of the film is Aya’s intelligence. And if you’re smart, you can survive at any time in history.”
The official launch of Aya to Majo is scheduled for the winter on NHK. And the date for an international premiere, which is not ruled out, is still pending.
Miyazaki is about to releaseKimitachi wa do ikiru ka, another film with Ghibli. The latter was planned to premiere during the Tokyo Olympics this year.
However, the current situation has delayed everything, so it might be released between 2020 and 2021.
