The artist duo PichiAvo’s collaboration in the 2019 Fallas de Valencia portrayed in Creative Process

The artist duo PichiAvo premiered the documentary Creative Process about their work in Las Fallas de Valencia in 2019. The feature film is free on Youtube and is directed by Agustín Ríos López.

It showcases some of the Valencian tradition that takes place in March. Furthermore, the tradition dates back to the 18th century when carpenters took out whatever they had left in their shops and burned it. However, the current festival displays great sculptures made by artists and burned to represent a new beginning.

These pieces are huge and satirically display topical issues. What is more, they represent everything that the population doesn’t like, which is why they burn them, to get rid of what is unwanted.

In 2019, the duo Pichiavo was commissioned to create a graffiti piece for this celebration. This meant months of sculptural work, painting and, of course, effort, to carry on the tradition.

Pichi and Avo and Las Fallas

The documentary Creative Process reveals how Pichi and Avo came across graffiti. Additionally, it talks about how they began creating art under the same name all over the world influenced by graffiti.

In addition, it features everything that happened during the months they worked on the piece for Las Fallas 2019. The giant sculpture was done in the classic style with graffiti interventions, becoming a vindication of art.

In addition, Agustín Ríos López directed the film; he accompanied the artists throughout the process. Moreover, they did not leave out the important part: the burning of the piece to continue with the tradition.

Lastly, here’s Creative Process for you to view and get to know a little more about the artists and the Valencian tradition.
