Taschen lavishes us with David Hockney’s book and this new way of drawing

The ephemeral is perhaps the greatest constant in David Hockney’s illustrations in the book My Window recently released by the publishing house Taschen.

And, as the name suggests, each drawing is inspired by the view from a window. Thus, from the intimacy of the artist who spent time at his Yorkshire home watching the outdoors, capturing ephemeral moments; as common as a dog passing or a beautiful sunrise.

The book consists of 120 images drawn on an iPhone and iPad. Therefore, the compilation narrates a process of perception where the simplest things acquire beauty and a certain touch of poetry. All of them were produced between 2009 and 2012.

In addition, Hockney drew while lying in bed, tracing and filling in at all hours of the day; even in the dark, he kept drawing without the need to get up. Consequently, he locked himself in his room to draw, capturing every season of the year.

Every image is special because we find unique details: from the brightness of the sun at different times of the day and in certain situations, to the colors of the sky and the immobility of a vase on the table. Some images are more abstract; others, realistic.

Best of all, at 82 years of age, the prolific artist is still receptive to the creative possibilities that technology can offer. The proof is My Window which can be purchased on the Taschen website for 1,750 euros.
