Filip Hodas is a digital artist who, in his latest series, imagines the skulls of various pop culture characters. These include SpongeBob, Tweety, Popeye, and Minie Mouse.
Hodas’ work is not exactly the most appealing, however, it is aesthetically pleasing and has a stunning execution. Hence, one can see the great complexity and unique concepts of his digital repertoire.
He previously featured several dystopian landscapes inspired by pop culture characters, such as Futurama’s Bender, Pac-Man, Mickey Mouse and objects like poke-balls and soda cans.
Moreover, as with every artist, concepts and techniques must evolve. Primarily to offer more to the public and overcome his creative limits.
Hence, in more recent times, he has chosen to imagine what the skulls of characters like SpongeBob, Goofy, Minnie, Popeye, Tweety and Scrooge McDuck would look like.
The results are a bit disturbing but, at the same time, the details and presentation are pretty interesting. The cartoon fossils can be viewed in an exhibition.
The artist focused on specific details to be able to create the pieces for this series. For example, the cracks on some skulls, the texture of certain objects, or the wear of time on each one. All of it is based on the natural process of decomposition and permanence of each bone.
There’s no doubt that this collection could torment some people’s childhoods, but it also showcases the limits of digital art which allows us to see the unthinkable, like the bones of our favorite characters.
