Fact: Fortnite is more addictive than cocaine

Fortnite might be the most popular game in the world, and now Epic Games faces a lawsuit

If Fortnite is your favorite video game, ask yourself how many hours a day you spend playing it. As fans, we don’t really care, but for parents, the game became a nightmare.

Check this out. According to official figures, a quarter of a billion players spend most of the day playing Fortnite. There are even those who believe that this is already an obsession. Of course, this fact brought consequences that are now taking a toll on Epic Games.

Turns out that Montreal-based Cálex Legal law firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of some parents who want to get their children’s attention back and get them out of the “vice” of playing.

As a result (and as ridiculous as it may sound), the lawsuit argues that the game triggers dopamine levels in the brain equivalent to those caused by consuming cocaine. In other words, users are officially addicted.

Interestingly, the group of parents believes that Epic Games created Fortnite to fill their pockets thanks to an addictive game. As if that were not enough, Calex Légal’s lawyer, Alessandra Esposito Chartrand, explained her theory regarding this controversy.

“When Epic Games created Fortnite, they hired psychologists: they really dug into the human brain and truly made the effort to make it as addictive as possible. Knowingly they put on the market a very, very addictive game that was also aimed at youth.”

Finally, it’s just a matter of time to see what will proceed with this lawsuit. We’ll see what parents are asking for to conclude their complaint.
