In this new piece, JR portrays the different visions of living in a concrete jungle

The Chronicles of New York City is the new piece where JR portrays the reality of the Big Apple. The piece located in Williamsburg’s Domino Park captures the lives of more than 1000 locals.

After Chronicles and his gigantic piece in the courtyard of a prison in Tehachapi, the Frenchman returns to the topic streets and reveals everything that exists and occurs in it. This new piece can be taken as the continuation of his worldwide series of portraits.

He began his work going across the five boroughs, capturing the spontaneity of the moment. Thus, we see salesmen, children playing, cops in action, construction workers and countless characters.

The best part is the view of the East River and the authenticity with which he portrays people in the black and white collage format. In addition, this mural is the main piece of the exhibition, which is on view until May 3, 2020, at the Brooklyn Museum.

Additionally, the piece is complemented with audio recordings, where you can listen to the story of each of the people portrayed. He shares the credit with LOT-EK, the architecture studio known for its sustainable design who helped with the installation of the piece.

“Working at the intersections of photography, social engagement, and street art, JR collaborates with communities by taking individual portraits, reproducing them at a monumental scale, and wheat pasting them—sometimes illegally—in nearby public spaces” the Brooklyn Museum commented.
