Artist and photographer JR joins the artists that have expressed their discontent with the murder of George Floyd through art. Thus, the photographer created a mural in Paris to honor the African-American; he also recalled the death of French player Adama Traoré, who died in 2016 in a context similar to Floyd’s.
Moreover, both deaths triggered a series of protests against police brutality and abuse of power. Furthermore, the artist created these pieces with the active participation of the renowned French director Ladj Ly and students of his film school.
On the walls of a building, there are two eyes; one belongs to Floyd and the other to Traoré as a symbolic way of capturing the atrocities that the world is witnessing. It’s also a call to end racial discrimination.
Furthermore, last weekend more than 23,000 people in France paid tribute to Traoré and Floyd in Lyon, Lille, Nice, Bordeaux, and Metz. They gathered to voice their discontent with the brutal behavior of certain security elements.
JR said: “Things are different between France and the United States: violence, police, justice, prisons, etc. But in France, as in the United States and many other countries, black people very often fall victim to racism and discrimination. Together, we must change that.”
Finally, don’t forget to check out JR’s past show The Chronicles of New York City or the incredible mural on the roof of a California prison.
