When we thought we had seen it all, this happened: two men entered the home of a 63-year-old art collector and simulated an art purchase. However, they drugged the man and stole Kahlo and Tamayo paintings.
The events happened last Sunday in the municipality of Miguel Hidalgo, in the home of Jaime Gerardo. He intended to sell the two stolen artworks. Around 6 p.m., the man greeted a couple who claimed to be interested in the paintings. However, the couple disappeared and so did the paintings.
According to Mr. Jaime’s testimony, the couple showed up at his home and when he saw them “well dressed,” he let them in. Once inside, he offered the robbers something to drink. He got something for himself too.
The collector then lost consciousness. Upon waking, he had a strong headache and could barely move. He immediately realized that Yo y mis pericos by Frida Kahlo was gone. As well as another piece by Rufino Tamayo.
Moreover, the two robbers also stole four Cartier watches; 16 thousand dollars in cash; a set of cutlery, and other silver utensils. According to the first investigations, everything points to the two individuals dissolving sleeping pills in Mr. Jaime’s drink, in a moment of distraction.
“The plaintiff said that after a few minutes he began to feel very sleepy, not knowing why and not knowing when he fainted,” the case file details. Now the Investigation Police (POI) searches for the couple and is trying to track the stolen paintings.
Finally, it is only a matter of time before the robbers get caught, just like those involved in the theft of an artwork by Banksy in Paris.
