Organized by the team behind Nuart Festival, which takes place in the Norwegian city of Stavanger since 2006; developed in collaboration with Aberdeen Inspired and the city council of the Scottish city, will be a platform for national and international artists, who will be able to show their work through murals, installations, interventions and temporary exhibitions.

Robert Montgomery is one of the most anticipated artists. The scottish artist, who has exhibited his work in Europe and Asia, is famous for his poems installed on fences that were originally intended for advertising; created with white lights or wood and some even burned in an act of visual poetry.

Julien de Casabianca, who takes classical art to the streets through reproductions of traditional art works, is also invited to the festival. Visual artist and filmmaker, Casabianca fuses canonical art with street art, as if he freed the characters from their confinement in museums, while questioning the authority of those institutions.

How street art can create a more imaginative environment…

The German duo Herakut is also invited. Its name is the union of Hera and Akut, the two artists who combined their talent in 2004 base their creative process in improvising on each others work. Which in result gives a contrast sometimes frenetic, but always well balanced in styles.

Adrian Watson, the director of Aberdeen Inspired, said that with the festival they want to “foster community commitment”. Also “make art accessible to all and create talking points in the city.”

This is the “Year of History, Heritage and Archeology of Aberdeen”. So the festival aims to demonstrate how street art can create a more imaginative environment about the use of public space.
