Versace and its special edition Biggie Smalls shades

Versace surprises us by reissuing the shades as an homage to Biggie

Elegance is not at odds with streetwear. Proof of it is the limited edition signature medusa sunglasses that Versace launched, immortalized by the great Notorious BIG in his music video Hipnotize.

The Versace shades are relaunching with a new edition, since Biggie last wore them in the 90s as part of The Clans Collection.

Built with a new design of the classic OG model, the new “Biggie Frame” reveals significant changes in terms of aesthetics: a low front lens shape and wide-cut temples, adorned with golden medallions of the medusa on the sides. Additionally, the frames now have a more hexagonal design.

This limited edition was announced shortly after we learned that Michael Kors bought Versace for 2 billion dollars. “For more than 40 years, Versace has represented the epitome of Italian high-end fashion. A testimony to the timeless heritage of the brand,” said John D. Idol, president and CEO of Michael Kors Holdings.

He also expressed the importance of this synergy: “We are excited to have Versace as part of our family of luxury brands, and we are committed to invest in their growth.”

And lest we forget, Biggie was very close to Donatella Versace. The brand achieved prestige among the hip hop community thanks to Notorious B.I.G. At present, figures like 2 Chainz and Tyga have included pieces from the Italian house to their wardrobe.
