We couldn’t help but talk about the new art toy and illustrations by Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara as they are pieces that more than one will surely like.
To contextualize the new pieces a little, we must say that Nara’s work is influenced by popular culture, both East and West. He also dabbled in disciplines such as engraving, painting, sculpture, ceramics and installations.
The artist’s series of articles is titled Marching on a Butterbur Leaf, composed of a vinyl unicorn with a semi-transparent body. It has details in vivid colors such as its horn, fur, tail and the tips of its legs.
In addition, on his face, next to his eyes, we can see stars tattooed on his plastic skin. It also joins a series of paintings and illustrations created by the artist and by Tokidoki.
And, although Nara’s pieces appeared to have nods to Japanese anime in the first instance, the artist stated that his work generally never has a direct relationship with this current. In contrast, his inspiration is obtained directly from a spiritual point of view.
On the other hand, the works are part of an eBay campaign in partnership with Simone Legno de tokidoki, Hank Willis Thomas and Carlos Rolón. Artists who will put limited and exclusive works of art for sale.
In this sense, the shopping portal will launch each week a new work by each artist. Best of all, the funds raised will go to an association chosen by the artists. Finally, you can purchase this and other pieces on the eBay website.
