Last Super Mario Bros is auctioned

The last Super Mario Bros went up for auction for an amount you won’t believe!

The last Super Mario Bros broke the highest record in its selling price for a video game of its kind. A rare copy, with the Super Mario Bros seal by Nintendo Entertainment System, released in 1985, has just been sold in an auction.

The piece was up for sale from 1985 to 1994, which included 11 different box variations. The first two variations are copies “sealed with adhesive.” These were only available at the test launch in New York and Los Angeles in 1985 and 1986.

Surely you’re wondering what the value of the last Super Mario Bros is. Well, this piece was graded thanks to its shrink wrap. Hence, the level of conservation and sealing is so high that it can practically be considered brand new. And if we add that it is impossible to find another copy in this state, the total value does justice to its preservation.

The cartridge was sold last February 6 to a group of buyers. Among the names listed are Jim Halperin, founder and co-chair of Heritage Auctions; Zac Gieg, owner of Just Press Play Video Games, and Rich Lecce, pioneer video game collector and owner of Robert B. Lecce Numismatist Inc.

Finally, this last piece reached a modest amount of $100,150. A high number for a video game cartridge. But not for a copy with those characteristics that will never be sold again. Especially to a die-hard collector.

“We all knew how hard it would be to find an open copy of this version in good conditions, but finding one that is sealed is something I thought I would never see,” said Zac Gieg.
