Basquiat x Barbie’s limited edition pays homage to the artist’s work
Thus, art and beauty are combined in the Jean-Michel Basquiat x Barbie edition. The world’s most famous doll recalls the legacy of the American artist in a beautiful limited edition doll.
Moreover, the doll boasts beautiful dark skin and dreadlocks in the shape of an “X”. Her head boasts a crown like Basquiat’s iconic seal in some of his pieces. In addition, her costumes are an ode to street art which was reminiscent of some of the artist’s works.
The outfit is somewhat androgynous, as it includes flared trousers paired with a blazer, a shirt, and a small tie. Each element exacerbates that street style, characterized by sketches with outlined strokes and vibrant colors.
Thus, the pop symbiosis is interesting. On the one hand, we have a doll that grew up with hundreds of generations, while Basquiat is the artist who revolutionized the way we appreciate street art. So it is a good opportunity to present Basquiat’s work to the new generations.
Moreover, in the advertising campaign, we see the doll walking in a “SoHo-looking environment with colorful graffiti and cast-iron windows. Finally, the Basquiat Barbie sells for $50 on the official doll’s website. And remember that Barbie also launched her line of inclusive Barbies. Did you see them?
